Berlin, baby

A city with a capital C. I loved the variety of neighbourhoods, grand avenues, great public transportation, awsome shopping, delicious food...

I visited Berlin in chilly mid October. We stayed at the Michelberger Hotel in Warschauer Straße, with every kind of public transportation available right outside. We went all over the city by railway, the tube (above and underneath the ground), buses and trams.

I loved

The neighbourhoods of Kreuzberg and Prenzlauer Berg.
The area around Hackescher Markt in Mitte is great for shopping.
I also loved shopping at Allsaints in Friedrich Straße, but except for that, I rather prefer the smaller boutiques in narrower streets.

I hated the Kurfurstendamm area. Sorry. But it does add to the extreme variety of neighbourhoods in this city.

We had great food at

Little Otik in Kreuzberg, Monsieur Vuong in Mitte, Nansen in Nansen straze, Der Goldene Hahn in Kreuzberg and Osteria no 1 in Kreuzbergstrasse. (Check out links and adresses below).

Two great streets to stroll in Kreuzberg:
Bergmannstrasse - my favourite (photo above)
Oranienstrasse - lots of bars

In Prenzlauer Berg: Schønhauser Allee. Check out Kollwitz platz.

The Michelberger hotel

Michelberger hotel is recommendable. Coolest hotel I ever stayed in. We treated ourselves to a luxury room (The Clever room), and it was totally worth the extra money. http://www.michelbergerhotel.com/

The party goes on all night in the Michelberger lobby (Honolulu bar), with cool dj's and hot guests lazing around on the sofa benches.

Breakfast time

Below: Breakfast at a cafe in a side street to Torstrasse (Prenzlauer Berg).

Lunch time

For lunch in between shopping we enjoyed the busy Monsieur Vuong, Vietnamese restaurant in Hackesher Markt area with delicious food and fast service http://www.monsieurvuong.de/

More great places to eat

Little Otik, Graefestrasse 71 in Kreuzberg http://www.littleotik.de/ (New York-style)
Monsieur Vuong, Alte Schønhauser Strasse 46, http://www.monsieurvuong.de/ (Thai - very fast and busy - great for lunch)
Nansen, Maybachufer 39, (Nansen strasse), Kreuzberg (German pub with great food)
Der Goldene Hahn, Pucklerstrasse 20, Kreuzberg http://www.goldenerhahn.de/ (Italian)
Osteria no 1 in Kreuzbergstrasse 71 http://www.osteria-uno.de/ (Italian)

Also, have lunch at the Michelbergerg hotel, and choose the Wienerschnitzel. It is very big - and very tasty!

And finally: Berlin, baby
